The Importance of Regular Heat Pump Servicing and Maintenance
As the colder months approach, we at Your Energy Your Way (YEYW) start receiving calls from homeowners whose heat pumps have broken down. Interestingly, these are rarely the heat pumps we've installed. One of the things we pride ourselves on is getting the design and installation right the first time, but obviously things can still go wrong.
One thing that owners are often surprised by and they don't need to worry about at all is the defrost cycle. In cold weather you might notice your heat pump suddenly steaming. This is to get rid of any ice that has built up and is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Why Regular Servicing is Essential
Heat pumps are a fantastic way to heat your home efficiently, but like any mechanical system, they require regular maintenance to keep them running smoothly. We encourage all our customers to have their heat pumps serviced annually. This not only helps us monitor the performance of the heating system but also allows us to spot any potential issues before they become significant problems. The cost of an annual service is £270 inc. VAT, a small investment to ensure your system's longevity and efficiency.
The Benefits of Regular Maintenance
Improved Efficiency: Regular maintenance ensures that your heat pump operates at peak efficiency, which can save you money on your energy bills.
Extended Lifespan: By addressing minor issues before they become major problems, regular servicing can extend the lifespan of your heat pump.
Enhanced Performance: A well-maintained heat pump will provide consistent and reliable heating, keeping your home comfortable throughout the winter months.
Peace of Mind: Knowing that your heat pump is in good working order gives you peace of mind, especially during the colder months when you rely on it the most.
What Does a Heat Pump Service Involve?
During a service, our technicians will carry out a comprehensive check of your heat pump system. This includes inspecting and cleaning the evaporator fins, checking for signs of oil leaks, and ensuring that all components are functioning correctly. Regular servicing helps maintain the efficiency of the system and can extend its lifespan.
Common Heat Pump Errors and Fixes
Many of our customers have the Homely smart thermostat installed, which allows us to remotely monitor their heat pump's performance and often talk them through a fix over the phone. Despite regular maintenance, some common errors can still occur. Here are a few we encounter on Samsung heat pumps:
E101 Error on Samsung Heat Pumps: This error indicates that the indoor unit can't communicate with the outdoor unit, often due to a power cut. The simple fix is to turn off the indoor unit at the wall switch, then the outdoor unit at its rotary isolator, wait 30 seconds, and turn them both back on, starting with the outdoor unit.
E911 Error on Samsung Heat Pumps: This is a low flow error. The first step is to check your system pressure, which should be around 1.5 - 2 bar. If it isn't and you don't know how to top up your system, please call your installer.
Legionella Cycle Temperature Error: This error occurs when the heat pump fails to reach its Legionella cycle temperature on the hot water. You can clear this error, and the heat pump will continue working, but it's important to inform your installer to prevent it from happening again.
