What Is The Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides upfront grant funding to help eligible homeowners and property owners replace fossil fuel or electric heating with a low-carbon system.

As the scheme is installer-led, your certified installer applies on your behalf. If approved, the grant is deducted from your installation cost, reducing the amount you pay upfront.
Understanding Funding
BUS funding can vary depending on your property, existing heating system and the type of low-carbon technology being installed. The sections below highlight the key funding routes currently available, including standard heat pump grants, enhanced support for oil and LPG homes, and future funding for air-to-air systems.
Who Is Eligible?
Eligibility depends on your property, your existing heating system and the type of technology being installed. In general, you may be eligible if you own the property and are replacing an existing fossil fuel or electric heating system.

The scheme is open to properties in England and Wales, including homes, second homes, rental properties and some non-domestic buildings. However, most new build properties are not eligible, unless they are self-builds that meet the scheme criteria. Social housing and properties that have already received government funding for a heat pump or biomass boiler are also excluded.

Your new system must meet the technical requirements of the scheme and be installed by an MCS-certified installer. Hybrid systems, such as a gas boiler working alongside an air source heat pump, are not eligible under BUS.
